Sewer Scope Camera Inspection ($275)
We insert a high-definition self-leveling camera into the main sewer lateral to inspect for blockages, cracks, root intrusions, offset joints, and line failures. Sewer line replacement costs $3,000 to $25,000 depending on depth, length, and access in Central Ohio.
Available as a standalone service or as an add-on to any standard home inspection.
Every inspection includes clear video footage and still image captures attached directly in your report.
Serving Franklin, Delaware, Union, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, and all Central Ohio communities.
Is a Sewer Scope Worth It for You?
An honest breakdown of the pros, cons, and when the risk justifies the cost.
Pros
- Sewer line replacement costs $3,000 to $25,000 depending on depth, length, and access — a $275 inspection is straightforward math against those numbers.
- Problems found before closing give you negotiating power. The same problems found after closing give you a bill.
Cons
- On newer homes with PVC sewer lines in good condition, the likelihood of a significant finding is low.
- If no problem is found, it is a cost with no financial return beyond peace of mind.
When the Risk Is High
- Clay Tile Sewer Lateral: Common in older Central Ohio homes (Columbus, Clintonville, Grandview, Westerville, Worthington, etc.), and the most failure-prone material in use. Clay tile is highly susceptible to root penetration, joint separation, cracking, and collapse. On a home with clay tile, the question is not whether there is a problem — it is how significant the problem is and who pays to fix it.
- The home is older than 40 years and the sewer line material is unknown or original.
- There are large mature trees between the home and the municipal main or septic connection.
- There is any reported history of drain backups, slow drainage, or basement dampness.
When the Risk Is Low
- The home was built in the last 20–25 years with a confirmed PVC sewer line in good condition.
- No large trees are located near the sewer path.
- There is no reported history of drainage issues or line repairs.
- New builds — risk is low, but problems with debris stuck in the drains have been known to occur.
What Our HD Camera Reveals
We inspect the entire main waste line from the accessible cleanout all the way to the city sewer main or septic tank.
Root Intrusion
Tree roots seek moisture and penetrate small pipe joints or hairline cracks, eventually filling the pipe and causing major sewage backups.
Cracks & Offsets
Soil movement, ground freezing in Ohio winters, and pipe aging cause sections to shift, shear, or fracture, restricting flow.
Bellies & Sagging
Sunken sections of pipe create standing water pools that collect waste and debris, leading to repeated chronic clogging.
